Site Neglect for the Holidays and Ponies
Posted by IT Pilgrim on December 2, 2008
Ahh nothing like a holiday to make you forget the little things, like a blog.
Just before the holidays, I took a trip out to Assateague Island National Seashore.
It was nice a peaceful, but on the way out, one of the horses decided to try to stick his head in the car. Snapped a quick shot. Good Times. Hope everyone had a good holiday. Just as a quick note, we DID NOT feed or pet the horse. I know that some people do, but these horses are supposed to be wild and I felt it would be wrong, no matter how cute they are.
How bored does this one look, if he could talk, I can hear the words .. “Come on, take the picture already, I know you’re gonna. “
Check out their Foster Home program. Interesting.

Successful Re-negotiation
Posted by IT Pilgrim on November 20, 2008

I wish I could say this was one of those great articles about negotiating tactics, but its not. I did get my was, a 4-day work week, but all usually tactics failed and I had to resort to blackmail. I tried being reasonable, suggesting that their travel schedule was unreasonable. I tried to point out that the company saves money on hotel and other expenses, but the truth is that they really could care less.
Like most big corporations, the people are just a cog in the machine. Now grant you, I could probably find a new job, and probably should but I have moved so much i the last three years, I think I need to stay put for a while. Like any good blackmailer, I got my ducks in a row first, resume all typed up and pretty. Then I had to resort to, fix it, or replace me. Sad but true.
I tried to be reasonable, I really did but in the end, the only thing they cared about was how angry the client would be if they lost me. I guess you don’t always get what you want, at least without some blood on the carpet. I’ll dredge up the negotiation tactics for real for tomorrow.

Pilgrim in Exile
Posted by IT Pilgrim on November 18, 2008

Hi All, sorry I have been in hiding lately, my travel schedule is killing me. While I know that some people will contest that I should be happy to have any job, I am not so sure. I never signed up for not seeing my own home but 12 hours every two weeks. Maybe I will quit, maybe not, I am not sure. In this field, jobs are a dime a dozen. It was a hard road to get here, but worth the journey just to be able to say that. Thanks to my article the other day about unemployment, I think I am public enemy #1 on the Brazen Careerist network right now, which is funny to me. That is the LAST article I thought they would crawl, but I forgot how much they love controversy. Ahhh Good fun.
<Rant>It is a constant source of amusement to me how riled up people get, and how they think they can judge someone based on a single expressed opinion. Take the gay right debacle going on in California right now, with everyone blaming each other. I’ve always found that’s very easy to point the finger, and very hard to accept responsibility for your own mistakes but that is part of what makes an adult. For example … should we all now decide to stop paying our mortgages so the government will “save” us? Of course not! Its just that we all seem to have forgotten the hard-work that our country was based on. That’s right up there with the “End Capitalism Now” movement. Funny stuff. Tried to snap a picture of the graffiti I saw it on, but the train was moving too fast. Never mind that capitalism got us where we are now, with our fancy clothes, cars, and cell phones. I would honestly like to dump all these people in a nice poor country where the government will not “take care” of them and they would be forced to work for a living. OK … <End Rant>
