Site Neglect for the Holidays and Ponies

Ahh nothing like a holiday to make you forget the little things, like a blog.

Just before the holidays, I took a trip out to Assateague Island National Seashore.

Assateaugue Pony1

It was nice a peaceful, but on the way out, one of the horses decided to try to stick his head in the car. Snapped a quick shot. Good Times. Hope everyone had a good holiday. Just as a quick note, we DID NOT feed or pet the horse. I know that some people do, but these horses are supposed to be wild and I felt it would be wrong, no matter how cute they are.

How bored does this one look, if he could talk, I can hear the words .. “Come on, take the picture already, I know you’re gonna. ”

Check out their Foster Home program. Interesting.

So Long Dream I Knew Thee but Shortly

Posted by IT Pilgrim on August 7, 2008

For years, and especially as a little girl I dreamed of riding a horse in the Olympics. As a hobby, or more accurately, to use up all my money, I ride horses. I have ridden Dressage and 3-day event horses for near-on 20 years now. Well, for the last few, I dreamed of going to Beijing for the Olympics there. Now is the time when I admit that I am probably no longer able to ride at that level, but who wants to crush their own dream. I think I am going to have to hold out for going overseas for training, or at least moving out of the triangle of amateurs otherwise know as the south.

Grant you, I am sure there are some good professionals here, I just have not found them. Now, for the first time in my life, I am grateful that there is no way I would make the Olympics. Seeing the reports on the air pollution in Beijing, I don’t think I would survive a week there with the lung damage I already have. Just for reference, no, I am not a smoker and never have been, my problems are not self-inflicted. Well, except for the IT chair butt. I just cannot imagine trying to compete in physical world-class competition in that low of air quality.

Evidentially China is trying very hard to fix, but I think it is time to realize that such things are un-realistic. They promised to clean up their air quality to meet world health organizations standards in time for the events, but realistically, is that even possible? If it were that easy, why hasn’t everyone done it? From reports from various new organizations, it is looking like a lost cause, so fare thee well Beijing Olympics, though I knew thee but shortly, I dream of thee no more.
